about WWAG
The Mission
To support people that have used or do use
the mental health services and their carers
by identifying and creating a variety of opportunities and activities which encourage
personal development and ultimately improve quality of life.
WWAG Aims
- To improve the quality of life for our clients' through support,
encouragement and empowerment which ultimately builds confidence and
skills enabling indivduals to take responsibility, for their own wellbeing
and long term recovery.
- To represent client's views and campaign for an improved mental health
service in our region by attending & managing forums, strategy and steering
groups, thus influencing health and adult mental health services in their planning,
policies and service provision.
- To promote, provide and support people with training and employment opportunities
which encourages personal development and provides necessary work skills.
- To grow and develop our services in response to clients' needs.
WWAG...
is what our clients' want it to be.
WWAG
is a local charity providing support
services for people with mental health issues and is one of the most
active empowerment groups of its kind in Surrey.
WWAG
is professionally run with a management
committee that includes individuals that have first hand personal experience of mental
health issues. A flexible, individualised approach is offered
to encourage personal development, good health & occupational activities.
WWAG
was initially formed in 1992 to promote a better understanding of mental
illness and its effects on individuals: to ensure that client views are heard:
to support each other to maintain good health: and to encourage people to take
some responsibility for their recovery & their lives.
WWAG
is involved in the promotion of
mental health awareness alongside the professionals in this field believing that
mental illness and its treatment is a collective responsibility.
WWAG's
Walton Activity Centre, lounge, computer training room and
offices are above the "Charity Shop" in Walton on Thames, Surrey.
WWAG's
clients' are actively encouraged to participate in social activities, which encourage empowerment and
improve quality of life.
These activities are subsidised by
and
organised by the clients' for the clients'. Social activities include
bowling, theatre, day trips, parties, meals, open days, cinema, video
evenings and walks. Therapeutic groups such as: art, drama, creative
writing and positive thinking, self esteem and confidence building are
also available.
WWAG
is what we (our clients') want it to be. Change does not come quickly
but it is something to be worked at and may begin with individual
empowerment within an organisation such as
WWAG.
WWAG client forums
are held bi-monthly & new ideas are always welcomed, listened to and acted upon.
